A recent study from Washington University in St Louis may explain why more than 75 percent of diabetics die of heart disease (Journal for the American College of Cardiology, February 7, 2006). The heart muscle of diabetics uses a much higher percentage of fat for energy than that of non-diabetics, to markedly increase risk for heart attacks.

The energy source for heart muscle is mostly sugar and fat, and to a lesser degree, protein. Muscles need far more oxygen to process fat than to process sugar. The blood supply to heart muscle comes from large arteries on the outside of the heart. Diabetics have narrowed arteries because high blood sugar levels cause plaques to form and reduce the diameter of the coronary arteries. The increased need for blood flow from burning fat and the decreased blood flow from narrowed arteries put diabetics at very high risk for heart attacks, heart failure and sudden death. The increased use of oxygen increases blood levels of oxidants that further damage the inner linings of arteries.
Another study from Sweden shows that many people discover that they are diabetic only after they have had a heart attack. Researchers recorded blood sugar levels in men who had had heart attacks and then did sugar tolerance tests at discharge and three months later. They found that 35 percent had diabetic sugar tolerance tests at hospital discharge and 40 percent had impaired sugar tolerance tests three months later (Lancet, Volume 359, 2002).
Therefore, 40 percent of people who have heart attacks are diabetic, even though they may not know it. Many of the diabetics had normal HBA1C blood tests, the standard test to measure diabetic control. Furthermore, the patients who were unknown diabetics had a much higher rate of sudden death from their heart attacks than those who were not diabetic. The authors recommend that all people with heart attacks be tested for diabetes.

In primary medicine, fenugreek has been used to treat a whole of conditions along with diabetes, sore throats, and in poultices used to treat sores and abscesses. Modern investigations into the restorative properties of this spice suggest it is foremost not only as a preventive for lasting diseases such as diabetes, but also for enhancing general physiological processes, especially with respect to athletic
performance.
As with most spices it contains many antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds such as apigenin,
genistein, kaempferol, quercetin, rutin, selenium and superoxide-dismutase. It also contains compounds such as trigonelline that has shown to prevent the degeneration of nerve cells in neuro-degenerative diseases.
Medicinal properties of fenugreek
Cardiovascular disease and blood lipids
Fenugreek has a strong modulating ensue on blood lipid levels and can substantially sell out the risk of atherosclerosis. In diabetics, who regularly suffer lipid imbalances, it has demonstrated a considerable capability to lower cholesterol, triglycerides and Ldl levels while raising Hdl levels. an additional one asset of fenugreek is the allowance of platelet aggregation which, in turn, dramatically reduces the risk of abnormal blood clotting linked with heart attacks and strokes. Like most spices, fenugreek also contains many foremost antioxidants and has the added advantage of protecting other dietary and internally produced antioxidants from free-radical damage. This has foremost cardioprotective benefits, as well as helping to fortify the body against a range of other lasting conditions.
Diabetes
Fenugreek, which has comparable antidiabetic potency to cinnamon, is one of the most primary spices for the operate of glucose metabolism and thus the prevention and treatment of Type Ii diabetes.
Owing to its many properties it helps in the prevention and treatment of diabetes in several ways.
Working in a similar way to the base antidiabetic drug glibenclamide, fenugreek lowers cellular insulin resistance and controls blood glucose homeostasis. It has been shown to lower blood glucose levels of Type Ii diabetics by as much as 46 percent.
It also increases the levels of several foremost antioxidants and reduces the damaging oxidation of lipids linked with diabetes.
As an added bonus, fenugreek seeds are a very rich in a type of dietary fibre that modulates post-prandial blood glucose levels by delaying the absorption of sugar in the intestines. This mucilaginous fiber also reduces the absorption of fat and cholesterol from the intestines thus providing further safety against heart disease and obesity.
Cataracts
Fenugreek is also sufficient against diabetes-related cataracts which occur commonly in diabetics. The enzymes that operate glucose uptake into the lens of the eye do not function regularly in diabetics and, as a result, glucose and its metabolites, fructose and sorbitol, fetch in the lens tissues. The lenses of diabetic patients are also prone damage by enzymes that would regularly safe against destructive free radicals, and a mixture of these factors leads to the gradual opacification of the lens known as a cataract. As fenugreek has been shown to partially reverse both the metabolic changes in the lens and to sell out the density of the cataract, it is likely to be even more sufficient as a deterrent agent against cataract formation in diabetics.
Alzheimer's and other neuro-degenerative diseases
Fenugreek contains the mixture trigonellene that has shown to stimulate the regeneration of brain cells. This asset has stimulated further research to see either it can help in the prevention of diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
Sport
One of the greatest difficulties facing athletes who compete in durableness events is maintaining a easily ready supply of vigor in the body. In order to perform this, muscle carbohydrate stores, in the form of glycogen, must be continuously replenished. In an event lasting more than one-and-a-half hours, glycogen shop become depleted, and for the remainder of the event the athlete has to rely on external sources of energy, such as high carbohydrate drinks, which are inferior to glycogen as an vigor source. Post event re-synthesis of glycogen is also very important, and the two hours immediately following continued rehearsal is the crucial time for this process to occur.
Fenugreek has been shown to have a strong ensue on glycogen replenishment; addition post-event re-synthesis by over 60 percent in some durableness athletes. While its effects on glycogen re-synthesis during an event have yet to be tested, fenugreek is likely to exhibit a similarly useful ensue during, as well as after, exercise.
Hormones
Fenugreek is one of the richest sources of phytoestrogens and is thus a very useful spice for women who have low oestrogen levels. Phytoestrogens are also plan to help safe against safe bet types of cancer, and fenugreek may well be proven to have anti-tumourigenic effects should this asset be investigated in the future.
Selenium
Fenugreek is one of the richest sources of selenium, which is among the most foremost antioxidant micronutrients. When consumed regularly, selenium appears to have a protective ensue against a range of cancers, along with those of the colon, lung and prostate. Modern evidence also shows that selenium helps to prevent the progression of Hiv and other lasting viral illnesses.
While other spices like chilies and cinnamon hold the culinary and restorative headlines, the research into fenugreek is showing us that this spice has condition benefits on a par with, or even classic to, those of the best known spices.
However it is foremost to appreciate that synergism in the middle of separate spices enhances the bioavailability and efficacy of their respective bioactive compounds. Therefore, to fetch optimum advantage from fenugreek, it is foremost to use it with other base spices in both the prevention and treatment of disease.
I hope you will get new knowledge about Symptoms Of Heart Disease. Where you can put to use within your everyday life. And above all, your reaction is Symptoms Of Heart Disease.

People with diabetes should try to maintain a healthy weight and eat a diet that is:
« low in fat
« low in sugar
« low in salt
« high in fruit and vegetables (at least five portions a day)
« high in starchy carbohydrate foods, such as bread, chapatti, rice.
There is no such food that people with diabetes should never eat. In addition, there is no need to cut out all sugar. But, people with diabetes should try and eat only small amounts of foods that are high in sugar, fat. So, if you have diabetes you can treat yourself to cakes and biscuits once a blue moon, as part of a balanced diet.
What foods to eat?
« A diabetic patient must eat lots of fruits and vegetables in which fibre content is very high. Such type of food lowers the requirement for insulin, the reason being it releases energy into the body cells slowly. A high fibre diet means more chromium, which is very helpful in the treatment of diabetes.
« As for vegetables, onion, garlic, ginger, radish, spinach, kale, cucumber, carrot, tomato, cabbage and cucumber are excellent in the treatment of diabetes. Moong, kidney beans which have been sprouted, and unripe banana which is cooked, are also recommended.
« Fenugreek seeds which have been soaked in water are good for diabetic patients.
« For fruits, take guava, Indian blackberry (jamun), fig, kiwi fruit, apples, citrus fruits and pomegranate juice. Let these things be a part of your morning breakfast. Since, fruit juice is high in fructose (fruit sugar) and can cause blood sugar levels to rise quickly, it's best for diabetics to drink fruit juice with a meal and avoid having more than one small glass a day.
« Replace white sugar with palm sugar, dates and honey, if you want to have something sweet.
« Unpolished rice, sprouted grain should be taken in moderate quantity.
« Fats like olive oil and peanut oil are good in diabetes.
« Drink plenty of water, at least 8 to 10 glasses per day.
« Single helping of fish or seafood, as it provides omega 3 fatty acids.
« Condiments such as pepper, chilli, mustard, herbs and spices.
« Raw vegetables need to be taken in large quantity, as cooked food raises the level of blood sugar fast.
« Eat non-fat dairy such as skim milk, non-fat yogurt and non-fat cheese, plain yoghurt, avoid cottage cheese a sit is high in carbohydrates.
« Some herbs and vegetables are specifically prescribed for diabetes, like Bitter Gourd and bitter melon juice.
What to avoid?
« Processed foods, white sugar, white flour and junk food, must be totally given up. Avoid sweets, glucose, fruit sugar, cakes, ice cream, chocolates, soft drinks, cream and fried foods.
« Anything that contains harmful preservatives and too much salt should be avoided.
« Avoid smoking and alcohol.
« Try and abstain from sweets, ice-creams and chocolates, including the so-called sugar-free types.
« Foods made from white flour, rye, corn, polished rice, bread, pasta, pastry, cakes, biscuits, pies.
« Starchy vegetables such as potatoes in particular; and go easy with beet, carrots, peas, beans.
« Avoid concentrated dairy products, such as khoya, kheer, cheese, cottage cheese.
« Fruits such as bananas, mango, grapes, strawberry, custard apple, date.
« Cottage cheese (except in small amounts)
« Avoid commercially packaged foods such as fast foods, chips, ready-to-eat foods, snack foods and "health foods."
« Fruit juices, as these are much higher in carbohydrates than fresh fruit. Moreover, they also lack in dietary fibre.
A few helpful tips if eating out -
· Avoid items called jumbo, combo, giant, deluxe, as they tend to have more calories.
· Choose grilled, baked roasted or steamed food.
· Choose water and calorie-free "diet" drinks instead of regular soda, fruit mock tails, sweet tea and other sugar-sweetened drinks
· Avoid creamy toppings, like mayonnaise. Add flavour with pepper, tomato, and onion.
· Watch out for high-fat topping salads, dressings, cheeses, and croutons.
· Choose a thin-crust pizza with extra vegetable toppings. Limit yourself to one or two slices. Keep off the extra cheese, which add calories, fat, and sodium.
· End your meal with sugar-free, fat-free frozen simple yogurt or a small cone of fat-free yogurt. Better still, go for a platter of fresh fruit salad.
· Check out on your portion size.
SO, EAT WELL AND BE WELL.

Causes Chf! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.
Etiology
Heredity is unquestioned as a prominent factor in the etiology of diabetes mellitus, although the mechanism of inheritance is unknown. Diabetes may be actually a syndrome rather than a specific disease. A variety of genetic mechanisms have been proposed, but most favor a multifactorial inheritance or a recessive gene somehow linked to the tissue-typing antigens, the human lymphocyte-A (HLA) system. However, the inheritance of non-insulin-dependent diabetes and insulin-dependent diabetes appears to be different. Nearly 100% of offspring pf parents who both have non-insulin-dependent diabetes develop that type of diabetes, but only 45% to 60% of the offspring of both parents who have insulin-dependent diabetes will develop the disease. There is also an increase risk of diabetes with obesity. The incidence of the disease doubles with every 20% of excess weight and this figure applies to the young as well as to the older diabetic person. Diabetes is now the sixth leading cause of death by disease in adults and the first leading cause of of new cases of blindness between 20 and 75 years of age. Viruses have been implicated on the etiology of diabetes. The viral theory states that the Beta-cells of some individuals (most specialists believe that the Beta-cells are genetically susceptible because of the defects in the HLA system) are attacked by certain viruses, causing cell damage or death. The body reacts to this damaged or changed tissue in an autoimmune phenomenon, forming antibodies that "attack" the Beta-cells, resulting in cell death. When there are not enough available Beta-cells to supply sufficient insulin to meet the needs of the body, insulin-dependent diabetes results. Tumors of the pancreas, pancreatitis, stress drugs as steroids, stress diseases that involve other endocrine organs such as acromegaly, heredity and viral diseases are now believed to play a part in causing diabetes.

About Causes Chf
We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Causes Chf.
In non-insulin-dependent, or type II, diabetes disturbed carbohydrate metabolism may be a result of a sluggish or insensitive secretory response in the pancreas or a defect in body tissues that requires unusual amounts of insulin, or the insulin secreted may be rapidly destroyed, inhibited, or in-activated in affected persons. A lack of insulin because of reduction in islet cell mass or destruction of the islets is the hallmark of the person with insulin-dependent, or type I diabetes.
Pathophysiology
Insulin is needed to support the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, primarily by facilitating the entry of these substances into the cell. Insulin is needed for the entry of glucose into the muscle and fat cells, for the prevention of mobilization of fats from fat cells, and for storage of glucose as glycogen in the cells of liver and muscle. Insulin is not needed for the entry of glucose into nerve cells or vascular tissue. The chemical composition and molecular structure of insulin are such that it fits into receptor sites on the cell membrane. Here it initiates a sequence of poorly defined chemical reactions that alter the cell membrane to facilitate the entry of glucose into the cell and stimulate enzymatic systems outside the cell that metabolize the glucose for energy production.
With deficiency of insulin, glucose is unable to enter the cell and its concentration in the bloodstream increases, the increased concentration in the bloodstream increases. The increased concentration of glucose (hyperglycemia) produces an osmotic gradient that causes the movement of body fluid from the intracellular space to the extracellular space and into the glomerular filtrate in order to "dilute" the hyperosmolar filtrate. When the glucose concentration in glomerular filtrate exceeds the threshold (180mg/dL), glucose "spills" into the urine along with an osmotic diversion of water (polyuria), a cardinal sign of diabetes. The Urinary fluid losses cause the excessive thirst (polydipsia) observed in diabetes. As might be expected, this water washout results in a depletion of other essential chemicals.
